Punta Cana — Another tourist who was missing on the Arena Gorda beach in Punta Cana, La Altagracia province, was found dead on Friday. With the discovery, there are three deaths due to drowning.

The report from the Department of Risk and Disaster Management of the Mayor's Office of the Verón municipality details that another foreigner is missing, and one is hospitalized in a health center in that town.

The tourists were staying at the Riu Hotel at the time of the event. The deceased were identified as Marcin Teodor Checinski, 47 years old, Sylwia Aleksandra, 52 years old, of Polish nationality, and Nelzon Nuñes Ribeiro, 67 years old, of Portuguese nationality.

The missing person is the Polish Jakub Tomasz Pedziach, while the hospitalized person goes by the name of Radoslaw Marcin, a Russian national.

Units from the Verón Fire Department are at the scene, who are maintaining the search for the Polo in coordination with the Dominican Republic Navy, Politur and the National Police.

The abnormal waves of the Atlantic coastal area swept away the deceased. Following the recommendations of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), the Directorate of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) has restricted the coastal perimeter.

Official information will be provided as more details about the event are gathered. For now, however, the Department of Risk and Disaster Management said all information provided should be considered preliminary.

The entity indicated that it “continues to monitor the situation and work together with local and national authorities to guarantee the safety and well-being of the population.”
