London.- Dominican-born actress Zoe Saldaña has been nominated for the 2025 BAFTA Awards in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in the film Emilia Pérez. Directed by Audiard, the film features Saldaña as a disillusioned lawyer who is approached by a cartel leader with a proposal to fake her death and start a new life.

The film blends suspense, comedy, and drama, using musical numbers to explore social issues such as trans activism, femicides, drug trafficking, and corruption in Mexico. Saldaña’s nomination adds to her growing recognition as one of Hollywood’s leading figures. She made history as the first Dominican to win a Golden Globe.

Born in New Jersey in 1978 to a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother, Saldaña moved to the Dominican Republic after her father’s death. It was there she developed her passion for the arts. Her Hollywood career took off with Center Stage (2000), where she showcased her dancing and acting talents.
