Significant Drug Bust at Punta Cana International Airport

Punta Cana.- An important seizure of drugs occurred at the Punta Cana International Airport, Province of La Altagracia, where agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps, in coordination with the Public Ministry, confiscated 114 packages, presumably cocaine.

The seizure was part of a supervision operation carried out by anti-narcotics agents and military personnel, along with canine units. The dogs alerted authorities to an apparently empty container located in one of the airport terminals, intended for the transport of fruits and vegetables.

In compliance with protocol and under the supervision of a deputy prosecutor, a thorough inspection revealed the packages hidden in the floor and ceiling of the container. This operation reflects the constant vigilance of the Dominican authorities against attempts by international drug trafficking to evade the surveillance and security measures of the country's airports and ports, particularly on routes to the United States and Europe.

The Public Ministry and the DNCD are intensifying their investigation into this frustrated drug trafficking attempt and anticipate providing more details as the investigation progresses. The seized packages have been sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for analysis and additional actions.
