Punta Cana — The national program “Soy Digital” has arrived in the Eastern region with a clear mission: teach Dominicans how to use their mobile phones safely and effectively to boost learning, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion.
Driven by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Critertec Educación, the initiative aims to train 100,000 people across the country so no one is left behind in the digital era.
Despite 97% of Dominican households owning a mobile device, only a fraction leverage it to improve everyday life. Soy Digital closes that gap with essential, practical training on tools that make communication, education, and work more accessible. As organizers emphasize, bridging the digital divide is not just about technology—it’s about rights and equity.
Free, accessible training for all ages
Soy Digital is 100% free and designed for participants of all ages. This October and November, tech fairs will be hosted in schools throughout La Romana, where specialized instructors will guide attendees step by step through topics such as:
- Practical mobile phone use
- Safe internet navigation
- Completing government and personal tasks online
- Digital entrepreneurship
Participants can keep learning via the Soy Digital online platform, which provides videos, inclusive materials, and interactive exercises accessible from any phone or tablet.
Hands-on learning to apply immediately
The program uses a learn-by-doing methodology so participants can put new skills to work right away—setting up mobile security, making video calls, finding reliable information, or launching and promoting a small business online. Upon completion, each participant receives a digital certificate recognizing their new tech competencies.
When and where
- Venue: Primaria Manuel de Jesús Guerrero
- Dates: Monday, October 27 to Friday, October 31, 2025

Each story proves that technology, used with purpose, opens doors to education, employment, and a better quality of life.
