INDRHI Director Suggests Responsible Mining Could Generate Government’s Desired Tax Reform Revenue

Santo Domingo – To boost the economy and amid tax reform discussions, former INDRHI director, Héctor Rodríguez Pimentel encourages promoting the mining industry, citing its critical role in economic revitalization.

Rodríguez Pimentel highlights the significance of sustainable mining exploitation in the current era. He references the remarks of the AIRD’s executive vice president, Cirse Almánzar, on fiscal reform. He also brings up the IMF’s confirmation of the Dominican economy’s strength, emphasizing fresh investments are required for growth.

He refers to Almánzar’s comments on the issues facing mining firms, including decreased production due to lack of state support.

Rodríguez Pimentel attributes this to a shortage of state promotion and complex procedures in the sector.

As PRR’s president, Rodríguez Pimentel underlines mining’s essential role in the development of the nation, noting modern practices are less harmful to the environment.

Rodríguez reports on GoldQuest Dominicana, a company aiming to conduct an environmental study in Los Romeros, hindered by numerous obstacles despite the potential benefits to the region.

He criticizes political sectors for hindering progress in San Juan, one of the country’s poorest provinces and supports this initiative to improve living standards. He suggests the Government should aid such ventures if profitable.

The journalist-politician calls on the Government to be responsible to boost tax revenue and aids in setting up new zones, noting how mining generates significant employment.

“We must generate wealth and exploit subsoil resources while preserving the environment,” says Rodríguez Pimentel.

On Almánzar’s proposition, Rodríguez expects the Dominican State to profit by 46 billion pesos if this mining firm is established.

He believes this firm and 20 other projects could furnish resources needed for national development.
