Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS) highlighted the importance of this area for the Dominican economy.
Understand that every day the interest of American patients, from the Caribbean islands and Canada, in receiving care at the different specialized health centers located in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Punta Cana and Puerto Plata grows.
He clarified that due to the quality of the service offered by the country, medical tourism is in an excellent position, compared to other nations that carry out this type of practices.
The Dominican Republic is positioned as number one in health tourism in the Caribbean, second in Latin America and 19th worldwide, said Cambianso when interviewed.
He said that it is necessary to continue improving infrastructure, medical services and, above all, follow quality controls at an international level, to continue growing.
He stated that in 2023 alone, nearly 300,000 tourists came to undergo medical procedures, generating an economic benefit of more than 1.3 billion dollars.
