Today, Their Majesties the King and Queen, Felipe and Letizia, have carried out the official opening of the 44th edition of Fitur, the International Tourism Fair, which takes place at the Madrid fairgrounds, Ifema.
This event, considered one of the most relevant in the world in the tourism field, has registered a record in its edition this year by bringing together 9,000 participating companies, representing 152 countries, with the participation of 806 exhibitors. It is estimated that the fair will generate income of more than 430 million euros for the capital.
This is what the RD Stand looks like at FITUR 2024
Ecuador has the honor of being the guest country in this edition, a recognition that highlights the importance of cooperation and cultural exchange in the international tourism field.
During the inaugural tour of FITUR 2024, Their Majesties have had the opportunity to greet various authorities present at the stands, including representatives of the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council.
The current edition of Fitur is experiencing notable growth in all its parameters, especially highlighting the expansion of international presence with the participation of 20 more countries compared to the previous year.
Prior to the inauguration, Their Majesties exchanged greetings with presidents of various autonomous communities, highlighting the importance of tourism as an engine of economic and cultural development throughout the country.
In this notable event, Mrs. Letizia has chosen a black and light Victorian-style outfit by designer Teresa Helbig, recovering a garment that she debuted in November 2022 during an official visit to Croatia.
Participation of the Dominican Republic
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, confirmed that the destinations to be promoted at the Madrid Tourism Fair (Fitur 2024), to be held from January 24 to 28 at the Ifema-Madrid fairgrounds, are Miches, Punta Bergantín and Pedernales.
In the case of Puerto Plata, it will be promoted as a renewed tourist destination through Punta Bergantín. A megaproject that in its first stage of construction includes 700 hotel rooms. The Punta Bergantín project will be one of the spearheads of the Dominican Republic in Fitur 2024
Miches, meanwhile, will be projected as the growth of the East. Mainly, thanks to its hotel developments dedicated to luxury tourism.
Pedernales, for its part, contemplates a whole mechanism of tourism development in the southern region of the country with the construction and launch of the cruise port in Cabo Rojo. Cabo Rojo, in Pedernales, is already active and ready to be shown at Fitur 2024
Likewise, the creation of an airport and of course, the construction of the first hotels in the area from renowned brands.
In total there are nine pavilions that will house 806 stands, 7% more compared to the last edition.
