The World Customs Organization awards OAS certification to Punta Cana Airport, making it the first in the country

Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) is the first air terminal in the Dominican Republic to receive certification as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), granted by the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The AEO certification is a global accreditation granted to airports that approve compliance with measures related to security and good practices in the international merchandise supply chain.

International airports are certified as economic operators when they meet the criteria for obtaining AEO status, “which is when they are considered reliable partners in the supply chain,” according to the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The OMA defines an Authorized Economic Operator “as the natural or legal person involved in the international logistics chain who, after accepting the viability of the other regulatory authorities of foreign trade activities, has been certified by the General Directorate of Customs for guaranteeing operations. of safe and reliable trade, after compliance with established conditions and requirements.”

The Punta Cana Airport was recognized for its Administrative Management, Economic Solvency, Security of Business Associates, Security of the container and other cargo units, as well as for Physical Security.

Additionally, recognition is awarded for improved access control, personnel security, process security, IT security, and security and threat awareness training.

The Authorized Economic Operator is an international program adopted by all member countries of the World Customs Organization, in its general assembly in 2005, under the SAFE regulatory framework, with the objective of ensuring and facilitating international trade.
