Tourist arrivals in the DR see a 19% surge in February

The Dominican Republic once again surpassed, by 19%, its own February record with the arrival of 1,057,216 visitors.

This was reported this Thursday by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado when presenting the results of the industry during the month of February of this year at the institution’s headquarters, during a new podcast.

He reported that the country received 755,832 tourists by air alone in the month of February, which represents a growth of 14 percent more than in the same month last year, 33% compared to 2022 and 25% compared to 2019.

Collado said that this notable growth was also recorded by sea with the visit in February of 301,384 cruise passengers, being through the port Taino Bay where the largest number arrived with 117,876 passengers, Amber Cove 90,089, followed by The Roman 69,136, Catalina Island 10,153 and Santo Domingo 2,016.

He pointed out that the arrival of cruise passengers in February represents an increase of 19% compared to the same month last year, 208% compared to 2022 and 159% compared to 2019.

“Incredible. We broke our own records again. 1,057,216 visitors in the month of February alone,” highlighted the minister.

The arrival of non-resident tourists by air did so through the airport of Punta Cana 59.7%, The Americas (AILA) 21%, Cibao 9.5%.

Collado predicted that at the end of the year the country will receive more than 11 million visitors.

He predicted for this year the best winter season that tourism has ever recorded in its entire history.
