Trade between the Dominican Republic and Malaysia hits US.9 million from January to August 2024

SANTO DOMINGO.- From January to August 2024, trade with Malaysia was $47.9 million. Dominican Republic owed 53.7% to imports and 46.3% to exports. ProDominicana reported these findings. The increase in trade was thanks to the rise in cocoa bean exports in 2023. The main exports were cocoa beans, scrap copper, and tobacco products. The imports were wire copper, medical supplies, and postage stamps.

Trade between 2019 and 2023 was $264.8 million. 79.3% of this was due to imports. The data was shared at the ASEAN Investment Forum in Laos. The forum focused on economic cooperation and the ASEAN Regional Investment Action Plan 2025-2030.

ProDominicana representatives, such as Marcial Smester, visited Malaysian institutions. They explored collaboration in sectors like ICT, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. This highlights Dominican Republic’s aim to increase its presence in Asia.
