A group of Haitians staged a protest yesterday morning at the Verón-Punta Cana district. They were stationed on the Eastern Tourist Boulevard, hiding among the mountains. They were said to have stones, sticks and bottles, allegedly to attack the buses transporting workers daily.
The protest was reportedly due to the drivers’ refusal to transport them to their workplaces, according to authorities.
The Verón-Punta Cana district authorities arrived at the scene along with police members.
As a result, the authorities were able to arrest Asi Belan and Wine Yased, the alleged protest leaders. Both are residents of the Cosobo sector in Verón.
The arrested individuals will be transferred for further investigation. The protest ended without major incidents around 10:00 AM, as reported by authorities.
