UN Tourism Summit highlighting Africa and Americas set to showcase Dominican Republic on the global stage in Punta Cana

Santo Domingo, DR. The Dominican Republic, at the invitation of UN Tourism, is set to host the Africa and Americas Tourism Summit in Punta Cana this week. This occasion will significantly place the Caribbean nation in the spotlight on a global scale in the tourism discourse.

Observing the significance of the event, Minister David Collado underscored the vital implications the first-ever tourism summit of Africa and the Americas in the Dominican Republic. The summit will be hosted in Punta Cana from Thursday to Saturday of the upcoming week.

The summit, sponsored by UN Tourism at the behest of the Dominican Republic, will convene ministers and key tourism contributors from both continents.

Minister Collado affirms the conference will constitute a “landmark event of deep significance for the nation,” as it will capture the attention of the global tourism industry during the three-day event.

“This event will place the global spotlight on the Dominican Republic, once again positioning our nation as the beacon to emulate. “It is indeed a monumental milestone,” shared Collado.

The first-ever UN Tourism summit for Africa and the Americas, where the Dominican Republic will welcome the assembly of two continents, is slated to be held from October 3 to 5, in Punta Cana.

The inaugural function of the pivotal assembly, envisioned to foster closer ties between both regions in the tourism sector, will be presided over by President Luis Abinader and Minister of Tourism, David Collado. They will additionally take on the responsibility of the event’s opening remarks scheduled for 10 am on Thursday the 3rd.

Minister Collado will be succeeded by Louis Steven Obeegadoo, Tourism Minister of the Republic of Mauritius and Head of the Regional Commission for Africa, alongside Zurab Pololikashvili, UN Tourism Secretary-General, welcoming the attendees.

Themed “Enhancing South-South collaboration via investment in education, culture, creative industries, and innovation,” the event is organized by UN Tourism on Dominican Republic’s initiative.

Spread over the three-day event, which will be held at the Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort hotel, a series of high-profile meetings, presentations, and sessions will be conducted. These will facilitate dialogue among ministers, academicians, experts, and industry professionals from both regions on various topics such as challenges, sustainable practices, innovation, culture, history, and opportunities for shared growth.

Dominican President, Luis Abinader, is slated for a special appearance on the first day of presentations, emphasizing the importance of this First UN Tourism Summit for Africa and the Americas for his country.

Meanwhile, Minister Collado will present a discourse on the topic: “Successful model of public-private partnership for tourism development”, scheduled for 11:45 am on Friday the 4th.

UN Tourism notes the tremendous potential that both these continents project in terms of natural attractions, rich cultural heritage, and the significant resurgence in international tourist arrivals.
