Punta Cana — Music became a vessel of grief, gratitude, and celebration during the emotional gala “Rubby Pérez Infinito”, a heartfelt tribute to the legendary merengue singer tragically killed in the recent collapse of the Jet Set nightclub—an incident that left 236 dead and over 180 injured.

Held on the grand stage of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, the tribute brought together 27 artists and the two daughters of Rubby Pérez to honor “the highest voice in merengue” with a stirring night of remembrance and song.

Family and Fans Share the Stage

One of the most touching moments of the evening came from Ana Beatriz Pérez, Rubby’s youngest daughter, who performed a deeply personal duet—originally recorded with her father for her 15th birthday—alongside artist Jandy Ventura. Their performance culminated in an emotional rendition of “Préstame a mi padre”, ending in tears and a heartfelt embrace on stage.

Zulinka Pérez, Rubby’s eldest daughter and a vocalist in his band, also honored her father. Together with her husband Miguel, she sang “De color de rosa”, the very song her father had been performing on the night of the fatal disaster.

A Voice That Shaped Generations

Puerto Rican superstar Olga Tañón added to the night’s emotional gravity with a moving tribute. Fighting back tears, she said: “We’re here to celebrate Rubby, a voice that marked generations and a legacy that continues to inspire millions.” During her performance, she added, “Rubby, we’re here singing for you.”

A Tribute to a Life Lived on Stage

The gala, directed by producer Aidita Selman, served as the official commemorative concert for Rubby Pérez, who died doing what he loved—performing for an audience. He was in the middle of a set at Jet Set nightclub when the structure collapsed, turning a night of music into one of the nation’s most devastating tragedies.

“Rubby Pérez Infinito” was more than just a concert. It was a testament to a towering musical legacy and a life that touched hearts across the Dominican Republic and beyond.
