SKY Airline expects 165,000 passengers during Chile’s Independence holidays, with Punta Cana, Miami, and Cancún leading international demand.

Travel Demand Soars for Fiestas Patrias

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic — With Chile’s Fiestas Patrias holidays approaching, SKY Airline is forecasting a surge in travel, expecting to carry over 165,000 passengers between September 13 and 23, 2025. Of this total, approximately 105,000 will fly on domestic routes within Chile and 60,000 on international services.

According to airline projections, Chileans are looking to make the most of the extended break, with many opting for vacations abroad to destinations such as Punta Cana, Miami, Cancún, and Buenos Aires. Domestically, Chile’s southern regions remain the top preference for travelers seeking nature escapes and outdoor adventure.

Punta Cana, Miami, Cancún Lead the International Rush

Benjamin Cox, SKY Airline’s Deputy Sales Manager, underscored the growing importance of experience-driven travel:
“For this Fiestas Patrias period we expect more than 165,000 passengers, with 105,000 flying locally and 60,000 internationally. More than just destinations, travelers are increasingly choosing experiences — from urban culture in Buenos Aires to the warm Caribbean beaches or Chile’s southern landscapes,” he explained.

Caribbean destinations stood out in the airline’s forecast, with projected bookings of:

  • Miami: 3,900+ passengers
  • Punta Cana: 3,800+ passengers
  • Cancún: 2,300+ passengers

These routes offer Chilean passengers the chance to enjoy sun, sand, and clear waters while escaping the early spring weather at home.

Domestic Travel Still Strong

While international travel is expected to boom, domestic tourism remains solid, particularly in the south of Chile, where regions known for their mountains, lakes, and forests are projected to host thousands of visitors.

According to El Diario de Turismo, the combined demand confirms a dual trend: many Chileans seek international travel for long-haul, beach-centered getaways, while others continue strengthening domestic tourism by exploring the natural beauty of the country’s south.
