PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. – The National Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued an official advisory for the Punta Cana region this Tuesday, warning of a dual atmospheric phenomenon characterized by excessive temperatures and a significant incursion of Saharan dust.
Meteorologists forecast that a high-pressure system will drive the heat index to hazardous levels across the eastern coast, including Bavaro and Uvero Alto. Concurrently, a dense plume of the Saharan Air Layer (SAL) is expected to cross the Caribbean, reducing visibility and deteriorating air quality.
Authorities are urging residents and tourists to prioritize hydration and limit outdoor physical activity during peak sun hours. Health officials have highlighted that the presence of Saharan dust particles may aggravate respiratory conditions and allergies, advising those in sensitive groups to exercise caution. This weather pattern marks a challenging start to the week for the region’s hospitality and outdoor sectors as they move into the peak of the tropical summer season.
