LA ALTAGRACIA, Dominican Republic — The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) is advancing the expansion of the Macao–Uvero Alto section of the Frank Rainieri Tourist Boulevard, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving mobility and supporting the continued growth of tourism, residential communities, and commercial development in the eastern Dominican Republic.

The initiative will widen approximately 13 kilometers of roadway from two to four lanes, increasing capacity along one of the region’s busiest transportation corridors. The project is being financed through the RD Vial Trust’s toll revenue system, which allocates funds to strategic infrastructure improvements across the country.

According to MOPC and RD Vial officials, the expansion is designed to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and provide more efficient travel for residents, hotel employees, commercial transport operators, and the millions of visitors who travel annually through the Punta Cana-Bávaro tourism corridor.

Construction crews continue to carry out earthmoving operations, roadway improvements, and lane expansion using heavy machinery as part of the government’s broader plan to modernize transportation infrastructure in La Altagracia Province. Authorities say the project responds to the significant increase in vehicle traffic generated by the rapid growth of tourism, new residential developments, and expanding commercial activity throughout the eastern region.

Once completed, the upgraded boulevard will strengthen connectivity between Macao, Uvero Alto, and surrounding hotel and residential communities, reducing travel times while improving access to one of the Dominican Republic’s fastest-growing tourism destinations.

RD Vial emphasized that toll revenues collected through the national highway system are being reinvested into road modernization projects, routine maintenance, lighting, signage, and traffic safety initiatives that enhance mobility across the country.

The expansion of the Frank Rainieri Tourist Boulevard is expected to play a key role in supporting the long-term development of Punta Cana and La Altagracia by providing safer, more efficient transportation infrastructure capable of meeting the demands of one of the Caribbean’s fastest-growing tourism and investment regions.
