PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Grupo Puntacana is preparing to strengthen its presence in the high-end hospitality market with the planned opening of Playa Serena Punta Cana Resorts next December, a boutique luxury property designed to offer an exclusive, non-all-inclusive experience on the destination’s eastern coast.

Frank Rainieri, founder of Grupo Puntacana, told arecoa.com that the development will operate under a Small Luxury Collection concept, emphasizing privacy, refined service, and premium amenities for a limited number of guests.

The resort will feature fewer than 100 accommodations and is expected to host up to 160 guests. Its design includes 75 suites, five overwater villas, a beach club, three restaurants, a themed dining venue, a beach restaurant, four bars, and eight spa bungalows.

Rainieri said the property will align with Grupo Puntacana’s broader hospitality vision while introducing a distinctive concept for the Dominican Republic’s luxury tourism segment. Unlike the destination’s traditional large-scale all-inclusive resorts, Playa Serena Punta Cana Resorts will focus on a more intimate and personalized guest experience.

The project forms part of Grupo Puntacana’s wider diversification and expansion strategy, as the company continues to grow its hotel portfolio through developments in Miches, Punta Bergantín in Puerto Plata, and Pedernales in the country’s southwest.

According to Rainieri, continued investment in hotel infrastructure reflects the Dominican Republic tourism sector’s sustained growth prospects and the confidence generated by cooperation between public and private institutions. The opening of Playa Serena Punta Cana Resorts is expected to further support Punta Cana’s position as a leading Caribbean destination for travelers seeking elevated, experience-driven luxury.
