43 Arrests in Punta Cana Security Operations, Over 1,000 Vehicles Checked

As part of ongoing Punta Cana security operations, the Dominican National Police’s Tourist Police Directorate (POLITUR) carried out a six-day enforcement initiative from September 2 to September 7, 2026, in the Bávaro-Punta Cana area. The operation led to 43 arrests, verification of 1,111 vehicles and motorcycles, and assistance to more than 2,700 locals and tourists.

According to the official report, of the 43 detained individuals, 20 were referred to the Public Ministry, five were handed over to the DICRIM anti-drug agency, and 16 were identified as sex workers. Additionally, 172 people were processed through police records, while 966 vehicles and 145 motorcycles were inspected during the operation.

POLITUR provided aid to 315 foreign visitors, benefiting a total of 1,987 tourists. Locals also received support, with 93 assistance cases helping 765 Dominican citizens. Authorities stated these actions are part of ongoing preventive and operational efforts to strengthen security and maintain public order in the Bávaro-Punta Cana tourist zone.

These operations coincide with other recent safety initiatives in the area, including the national earthquake drill involving over 56 entities in Verón-Punta Cana, highlighting the region’s focus on multi-agency preparedness and public safety coordination.
