SANTO DOMINGO – The Barceló Group closed 2024 with a historic net profit of €301.8 million, a 56% increase over the previous year, marking one of the strongest financial performances in its history. The milestone also enabled the global tourism operator to eliminate its corporate debt entirely, according to its newly released annual report.

The group’s most lucrative markets were Spain, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, where strong tourism demand drove significant gains. Spain topped the list with €135.4 million in profits—up 58% year-over-year. Mexico followed closely with €86.9 million, reflecting a 45.8% rise. The Dominican Republic nearly doubled its 2023 earnings, bringing in €37.2 million compared to €21.2 million the previous year.

Barceló also recorded positive results in several other key destinations, including Aruba (€14.5 million), Costa Rica (€6.4 million), Guatemala (€5.4 million), the United States (€3.6 million), Egypt (€2.9 million), and the Czech Republic (€1.9 million). Combined earnings from other markets contributed an additional €16.5 million to the group’s bottom line.

However, not all international operations reported gains. Portugal, while significantly reducing its losses from €29.7 million in 2022 to €4.1 million in 2024, remained in deficit. Italy also posted a downturn, moving from a €2.8 million profit in 2023 to a €148,000 loss, impacted by Barceló’s recent expansion through its Ávoris division.

Despite isolated setbacks, CEO Simón Pedro Barceló praised the company’s overall performance, emphasizing the strength and resilience of its business model. “These results not only reflect a strong recovery in global tourism but also affirm the effectiveness of our strategic expansion and operational efficiency,” he stated.

With 2025 underway, the Barceló Group enters the new fiscal year debt-free and with renewed momentum, positioning itself as a leader in the international tourism and hospitality sector.
