Bávaro, Punta Cana – Local community leaders, residents, and business representatives have welcomed the long-awaited transformation of Barceló Avenue, one of Bávaro’s most strategic roadways and a vital access point to more than 15 major hotels in the Punta Cana tourism zone.
The newly rehabilitated avenue has brought a noticeable improvement in traffic flow, road safety, and overall mobility for the thousands of residents, employees, and visitors who travel the route every day. For the area, the upgrade represents a turning point for a corridor that plays a crucial role in both daily life and the tourism economy.
For many years, Barceló Avenue was in poor condition, plagued by potholes, uneven surfaces, and deteriorated pavement. These issues not only caused frequent traffic congestion and vehicle damage but also raised safety concerns and affected the image of Bávaro as a world-class tourist destination. The situation led to repeated complaints from local residents, hotel operators, and commercial sectors that depend on the road for transportation and logistics.
The scenario changed after comprehensive rehabilitation works carried out by the Ministry of Public Works, following persistent requests from the community. The intervention included resurfacing, structural improvements, and measures aimed at making the avenue safer and more efficient.
Community members now highlight that the renovated roadway has reduced travel times, improved driving conditions, and enhanced pedestrian safety, while also supporting tourism operations and local commerce. Many see the project as a clear example of how effective public investment and community engagement can positively impact urban development, tourism growth, and quality of life in Punta Cana’s most dynamic areas.
The transformation of Barceló Avenue is already being recognized as a key improvement for Bávaro, reinforcing its importance as a central gateway to hotels, residential zones, and commercial activity in eastern Dominican Republic.
