BÁVARO, PUNTA CANA.- Beaches such as White Sands, Bibijagua and El Cortecito are already showing a significant buildup of sargassum, altering the usual appearance of several stretches of Punta Cana’s coastline.
As occurs each year, the massive arrival of this marine algae once again poses a challenge for one of the Caribbean’s leading tourist destinations. The seaweed accumulates along the shore, affecting the visual appeal of the beaches and requiring continuous cleanup efforts to keep the area in acceptable condition for visitors and residents.
Although sargassum is a natural phenomenon, its effects are already being felt at some of the most frequented beaches in the region, signaling the start of a season that could last for the coming months.
