Over 56 Entities in Veron-Punta Cana Join National Earthquake Drill

More than 56 entities in Veron-Punta Cana have registered for the National Earthquake Drill Punta Cana 2026, scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m., according to Bruno Benítez, director of the Risk and Disaster Management Department of Verón-Punta Cana City Hall. The participants include 39 educational centers, six public institutions, 11 commercial plazas, 85% of the area’s hotels, and Punta Cana International Airport.

The Risk and Disaster Management Department encouraged residents to join the drill to review evacuation routes, establish meeting points, and identify potential obstacles to a rapid emergency response.

Participation in the National Earthquake Drill Punta Cana

The nationwide drill will involve public and private institutions, schools, businesses, and families, aiming to test existing procedures in the event of an earthquake. Erwin Olivares, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), emphasized the importance of prior preparation, noting that earthquakes cannot be predicted.

“Because we cannot invite you on the day of the earthquake, because no one knows when it will happen,” Olivares said. “Preparing today allows us to respond more effectively tomorrow.”

Olivares also stressed the need for coordination between institutions and the public, stating that such collaboration helps reduce risks and protect lives during emergencies.

In Veron-Punta Cana, the 56 registered entities will take part in the national exercise, offering an opportunity to assess evacuation mechanisms and reinforce a culture of prevention in the tourist district.
