PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — The 2026 Punta Cana JDM International Baseball Tournament has opened with 60 teams from 10 countries, underscoring its standing as one of the Caribbean’s leading youth baseball competitions.
The opening ceremony was held at RD Complex Stadium and included the participation of figures connected to professional baseball. This year’s edition is dedicated to former Major League player Omar Vizquel, who attended the event and praised its organization and its focus on involving young athletes in competitive sports.
During the opening activities, Vizquel was recognized as an honorary guest of the Verón-Punta Cana Tourist District.

He said events of this kind contribute to the expansion of sports tourism in the Dominican Republic by bringing young players, families, coaches and visitors from multiple countries to the destination.
The tournament is expected to feature several days of competition, providing participating teams with an international platform while further strengthening Punta Cana’s profile as a host destination for youth sporting events.
