The Public Affairs Counselor of the United States Embassy recognized the importance of the tourism sector in the Dominican Republic and how the reception of North American tourists in this country has been.

Chelsia Hetrick reported that in 2022 alone, nearly 3 million North American tourists arrived in the country and visited different parts of the island.

He maintains that what most attracts North American tourists to the Dominican Republic is the cultural and family link that exists between the two nations.

Although he did not give figures, he acknowledged that there is a large investment by North American hotels in different tourist spots in the country.

When asked how many Americans reside in the country, Hetrick reported that nearly 250,000 Americans live in the Dominican Republic.

The Public Affairs Counselor of the United States Embassy offered the information when participating in the inauguration of the Commercial Exhibition of the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic held in the Blue Mall halls of Punta Cana.
