Minister Joel Santos announces benefits for Dominican Republic from AERODOM contract extension

Santo Domingo.- Joel Santos Echavarría, Minister of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, emphasized the importance of expanding the contract with Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM) for the nation’s economic growth and sustainable development of its airport infrastructure.

The revised contract will initially provide $775 million for the state, which will be used for road construction projects. Santos also highlighted the need to build a new terminal at Las Américas International Airport to meet future demands.

Key aspects of the renegotiation include the immediate payment of $775 million and an additional investment of $830 million in airport facility improvements. These funds will positively impact the country’s infrastructure and development, benefiting the population.

Responding to criticism from opposition parties, the Minister stated that such attitudes hinder the search for vital infrastructure solutions. He accused the opposition of being ineffective and highlighted the public benefits of the deal.

Santos also emphasized the importance of the new investments committed by VINCI, amounting to $350 million over ten years, to guarantee the safety and technological adaptation of the aviation sector. He praised VINCI’s global reputation as the world’s first private airport operator, managing more than 70 airports in 13 countries, ensuring the successful fulfillment of agreements with the state.
