Speaking of the significance of the first tourism summit in Africa and the Americas, David Collado, the Minister emphasized how vital it is for the Dominican Republic. The event is set to take place in Punta Cana, the upcoming Thursday to Saturday.
The meeting designed under the stewardship of UN Tourism, at the Dominican Republic’s request, will see the union of tourism stakeholders and ministers from both continents. According to Collado, it will be an iconic and monumental event for the nation, attracting tourism attention over the three-day span.
“This event will keep the global tourism spotlight on the Dominican Republic, reaffirming our country as a beacon for others. It’s truly monumental,” says Collado. The Dominican Republic gets the privilege to host two continents at the maiden UN Tourism summit for Africa and the Americas in Punta Cana, running from October 3 to 5.
President Luis Abinader, alongside Minister of Tourism, David Collado, will spearhead the opening ceremony of the significant assembly. The gathering seeks to promote tourism cohesion between the two regions. The event’s opening remarks will also be given by Minister Collado on Thursday, the 3rd, at 10 am.
Welcome remarks will be delivered by Minister Collado, followed by Louis Steven Obeegadoo, Minister of Tourism for the Republic of Mauritius and Regional Commission for Africa’s President, and Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of UN Tourism.
The Dominican Republic-initiated event, run by UN Tourism, will bear the slogan, “Encouraging South-South collaboration through investment in education, culture, creative sectors, and innovation”. High-profile congregations, exhibitions, and sessions highlighting conversations on opportunities, hurdles, sustainable practices, accessible tourism, innovation, culture, history, and mutual growth avenues will fill the three-day event at Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort.
In the midst of the first-day discussions, Dominican President, Luis Abinader, will make a special appearance. He will focus on the significance of hosting the First UN Tourism Summit for Africa and the Americas to the country. Furthermore, Minister Collado will discuss the subject: “Successful public-private partnership model for tourism growth”, planned for Friday the 4th, at 11:45 am.
Both continents’ appeal lies in their wealth of natural beauty, thriving cultural heritage, and impressive rise in international tourist arrival numbers – a point stressed by UN Tourism.
