Bávaro, Dominican Republic – A significant revitalization project is underway for the Eastern Tourist Boulevard, a vital artery connecting the Dominican Republic’s most cherished tourist destinations. The RD Vial Trust, under the leadership of Hostos Rizik Lugo, has announced an ambitious US$10 million investment aimed at comprehensively upgrading this crucial corridor. The initiative focuses on expanding road capacity, significantly enhancing safety measures, and implementing an extensive environmental beautification program, which includes the strategic planting of over 70,000 ornamental and native plant species.

This substantial infrastructure upgrade directly addresses long-standing concerns regarding the boulevard’s condition, forming a key component of a broader national strategy to modernize essential infrastructure and elevate the travel experience across the region. A major highlight of the project is the expansion of the 13-kilometer stretch from Macao to Uvero Alto, which will see the addition of four new lanes, dramatically improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. Funding for this critical development is being secured through the national toll system, ensuring a sustainable approach to infrastructure investment.

Safety is paramount in this revitalization effort. The plan includes the installation of advanced horizontal and vertical signage, alongside robust, durable guardrails designed to protect motorists. These enhancements will benefit not only the main Eastern Tourist Boulevard but also key internal thoroughfares such as Avenida Bávaro, Avenida España, and Avenida Francia, ensuring a safer driving environment throughout the popular tourist zone. Complementing these safety measures, an extensive beautification campaign is already in progress through the “Clean Roads” program. This initiative involves meticulous painting of railings and thorough cleaning of the entire corridor, from Las Américas Avenue all the way to the iconic Punta Cana roundabout.

In a collaborative effort that underscores a commitment to ecological preservation, the RD Vial Trust is partnering with the National Botanical Garden, the esteemed Puntacana Group, and the local Beautification Department. Together, they are spearheading an urban reforestation plan that will breathe new life into the landscape, reinforcing environmental sustainability in the Dominican Republic’s premier tourist destination. This holistic approach ensures that the Eastern Tourist Boulevard will not only be more efficient and safer but also a visually stunning gateway to the unparalleled beauty of Punta Cana. This project is set to significantly enhance the experience for both residents and the millions of tourists who visit this vibrant Caribbean paradise annually.
