Shanghai, China.- The Vice Minister of Digital Agenda of the Ministry of the Presidency, José David Montilla, participated in the Huawei Connect 2023 international conference, in Shanghai, China, meeting which brought together, in the same space, relevant actors from the technological and telecommunications ecosystem.
The vice minister was accompanied by the general director of the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (Ogtic), Bartolomé Pujals; the executive director of the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel), Julissa Cruz Abreu; the strategic advisor of the Minpre, Jacquelyn Nivar Cos, among other executives.
During his speech, the official indicated that the digital economy contributes 15.5% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and over the next seven years Artificial Intelligence will contribute 16%.
He highlighted that the Dominican Republic, like other Latin American countries, has committed to transforming its economy and improving the quality of life of the population through innovation and digital development in all sectors of national life.
In this sense, he stated that the country has a strategic framework for innovation and digital development, which includes a Digital Transformation Strategy, called Digital Agenda, a National Innovation Policy, a National Cybersecurity Strategies and another National Artificial Intelligence Strategy., with actions and projects until 2030.
Montilla highlighted that, with the rapid changes in technologies and the exponential advances they present, countries and organizations must carry out a delicate process of selecting strategic partners that will guide them to know, adopt and use the best and most efficient solutions, from the field of telecommunications to the development of new technologies.
“That is why, on behalf of the Dominican government led by our president Luis Abinader and his Cabinet of Innovation and Digital Development, chaired by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría, we thank the Huawei executives for accompanying our country during more than 14 years, in its digital transformation process, presenting high-impact results,” he pointed out.
He highlighted that access to the Internet is a fundamental right, which is why connectivity, information and communications technologies are at the center of public policies and private strategies.
During his presentation, Vice Minister Montilla thanked Huawei’s manager in the Dominican Republic, Toni Wang, for his leadership and interest in the country.
He added that Huawei as a company has more than 120,000 patents, which is double all those registered by all Latin American countries, according to the World Intellectual Protection Organization.
“I know that everything we have seen from Huawei, both at international fairs and conferences and what we have witnessed here in China, has been an enormous demonstration of its capacity as a company,” he emphasized.
In addition to the participation that Vice Minister José David Montilla had in the Huawei Connect 2023 international conference, which takes place from September 15 to 24 in Shanghai, China, he visited Huawei’s main factory, located in Shenzhen and Dongguan.
