SANTO DOMINGO — The Dominican Republic and the United States have officially renewed a memorandum of understanding aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in the fight against transnational crime, enhancing defense collaboration, and streamlining humanitarian response efforts.

The agreement, signed by Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Patricia Aguilera, was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under the terms of the renewed accord, both nations will share radar and sensor data through the Cooperative Situational Information Integration System—an online network designed to facilitate real-time intelligence exchange with regional allies.

Beyond crime prevention, the memorandum also paves the way for coordinated action during search and rescue missions, disaster response, and the improvement of maritime and aerial security protocols.

Foreign Minister Álvarez emphasized the strategic significance of the agreement, stating that the initiative reflects a joint commitment to enhancing border surveillance, boosting early warning capabilities, and enabling data-driven decision-making. “Every interconnected radar, every monitoring buoy, and every shared information station will help protect the integrity of our populations and the sovereignty of our territories,” he said during the signing ceremony.

Aguilera praised the Dominican Republic’s role as a regional partner, citing previous cooperation as instrumental in intercepting record amounts of narcotics destined for international markets. “With the renewal of this agreement, we continue to make progress in the protection and security of our citizens,” she noted.

The updated memorandum signals a continued investment by both governments in regional stability and public safety across the Caribbean basin.
