Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.Tourism Minister David Collado announced that the country will implement a comprehensive land-use and tourism development plan before the end of 2025, with the goal of ensuring growth that is organized, sustainable, and equitable across the nation’s most important destinations.

The announcement was made during the 37th Asonahores Commercial Exhibition, where Collado emphasized that the first stage will be focused on Bávaro–Punta Cana, the region responsible for the largest share of the Dominican Republic’s tourism revenue.

According to Collado, 60% of the budget from the Executive Committee for Tourist Zone Infrastructure (Ceiztur) will be allocated to this region. Among the priority projects, he highlighted the reconstruction of the Uvero Alto road, which is already in the bidding stage and expected to begin in the next two or three months, along with improvement works along El Cortecito Beach, one of Punta Cana’s most popular coastal areas.

“In a world where other top destinations struggle with safety, the Dominican Republic must keep strengthening its beaches and public access points,” Collado stressed.

The national zoning and development plan will later expand to include other key tourist provinces such as Samaná, Puerto Plata, and La Romana, ensuring balanced growth across the country.

Boosting Safety and Innovation in Tourism

Collado also announced increased investment in the Tourist Police (Politur), reinforcing security measures in the busiest areas and strengthening the country’s reputation as a safe and reliable destination for international travelers.

Looking ahead, the minister revealed that his administration will establish an International Technical Tourism Center, dedicated to training, innovation, and specialized studies to support the continued growth and modernization of the Dominican hospitality sector.
