Bávaro News Punta Cana Wins Media Recognition at Medio a Medio Awards

The award was presented to Oscar Quezada, director of Bávaro News and El Tiempo. The ceremony, organized by journalist Jorge Tactuk through the Medio a Medio Group, highlighted individuals and institutions that have made a positive impact in the region.

Established to celebrate excellence in journalism and civic leadership, the Medio a Medio awards mark a new effort to recognize media that go beyond reporting and instead play a role in shaping the social and economic fabric of the Verón-Punta Cana corridor. This stretch of the Dominican coast has become a global tourism hotspot, with over 30 hotels and more than 50,000 rooms concentrated in the area. As the region grows, so does the importance of local media in informing residents and stakeholders about development projects, environmental concerns, and community initiatives.

Bávaro News Punta Cana, a digital and print media outlet, has consistently focused on local issues, from infrastructure improvements to environmental sustainability efforts. Its coverage has helped raise awareness about challenges such as waste management, water access, and traffic congestion—issues that often accompany rapid tourism-driven development.

Other honorees included journalist Fernando Placeres, mayor Ramón Antonio Ramírez (known locally as Manolito), Uridy Marte, and representatives from various community and business sectors in the area.

The mayor, Manolito, has been praised for his efforts to modernize Verón’s infrastructure, including recent initiatives to improve roadways and public lighting. Meanwhile, Uridy Marte, a prominent local entrepreneur, was recognized for his investments in sustainable tourism and community job creation.

Journalist Jorge Tactuk, founder of the Medio a Medio Group, emphasized during the ceremony that the awards were not just about celebrating achievements but also about encouraging transparency and ethical reporting in a region where media coverage can sometimes be influenced by commercial or political interests.

“The idea is to shine a light on those who are working for the common good,” Tactuk said. “Media has a responsibility not just to inform, but to inspire action and accountability.”

The Medio a Medio awards aim to promote civic engagement, media transparency, and local development in Punta Cana and surrounding areas.
