PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Spanish airline Iberojet will launch a new direct route between Barcelona and Punta Cana on June 21, expanding air connectivity between Spain and the Dominican Republic ahead of the 2026 summer travel season.
The seasonal service will operate every Sunday through September, providing travelers with a nonstop link between Catalonia and one of the Caribbean’s leading tourism destinations. The new route is expected to enhance travel options for vacationers while supporting growing demand for direct connections to the Dominican Republic.
With the addition of Barcelona, Iberojet strengthens its network serving the Dominican Republic, complementing its existing year-round direct flights from Madrid and Lisbon. The airline now offers three departure points across the Iberian Peninsula, improving accessibility for tourists, business travelers, and the Dominican diaspora residing in Spain and Portugal.
Airline officials highlighted the significance of the new route for the Dominican community in Catalonia, which will benefit from a more convenient travel option without the need for connecting flights. The service is also expected to contribute to increased visitor arrivals in Punta Cana during the peak summer tourism season, further supporting the region’s hospitality and tourism industries.
Iberojet, the airline division of Ávoris Corporación Empresarial, part of the Barceló Group, operates a modern fleet that includes Airbus A350, A330, and A320 aircraft. The carrier said the launch of the Barcelona-Punta Cana route underscores its commitment to strengthening air connectivity between the Dominican Republic and key European markets.
Beginning in summer 2026, Barcelona will join Madrid and Lisbon as direct European gateways to Punta Cana, reinforcing the destination’s position as one of the most accessible and sought-after vacation hubs in the Caribbean.
