PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — RIU Hotels & Resorts has unveiled plans to renovate the Riu Bambu resort in 2027, marking the latest phase of the company’s long-term investment strategy aimed at modernizing its hotel portfolio in the Dominican Republic and enhancing the guest experience.
The renovation forms part of a broader improvement program that has seen the Spanish hotel chain invest heavily in upgrading its properties across the country’s leading tourism destinations. Once completed, the project will ensure that all RIU resorts operating in the Dominican Republic have either been newly built or comprehensively renovated within the past decade.
Located in Punta Cana, the all-inclusive Riu Bambu features more than 1,000 rooms and has been a fixture of the region’s hospitality sector since opening in 1999. The property previously underwent renovations in 2004, 2010, and 2017, with the latter representing the most extensive upgrade to date.
Company officials said the 2027 renovation will focus on modernizing guest accommodations, updating furnishings, and introducing new amenities designed to meet evolving traveler expectations and maintain the resort’s competitiveness in the Caribbean tourism market.
RIU executives emphasized that the project reflects the company’s continued confidence in the Dominican Republic as one of its most important destinations worldwide. The renovation is part of a broader investment roadmap that has transformed several RIU properties in recent years.
Among the key milestones cited by the company are the opening of the Riu República in 2016 and its subsequent expansion in 2017, the complete renovation of the Riu Palace Punta Cana in 2018, the extensive refurbishment of the Riu Palace Macao completed in late 2023, and the full renovation of the Riu Palace Bávaro in 2024.
The latest investment underscores RIU’s commitment to maintaining a modern and competitive hotel offering in Punta Cana, a destination that continues to attract millions of international visitors annually and remains a cornerstone of the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry.
With the planned transformation of Riu Bambu, the company aims to further strengthen its presence in the Caribbean while supporting the continued growth and evolution of Punta Cana’s hospitality sector.
