The Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) sealed a public-private alliance with PDAB Port Investments Sociedad Gestora, SA to transform Puerto Duarte in Arroyo Barril-Samaná into a cruise terminal. This agreement, signed at the National Palace by representatives of the State and the management company, seeks to prepare the port to receive the Oasis class vessels, leaders in the cruise industry, and host up to four cruises simultaneously.
Tourist Investment
With an investment of US$68 million by PDAB Port Investments, it is estimated that over 33 years, the State will receive income of up to US$115.6 million. This project adds to other efforts by the administration to promote tourism, as indicated by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría, highlighting the country’s strategy to attract cruise tourists.
Arroyo Barril Terminal
The Arroyo Barril terminal foresees the arrival of 161 ships per year, translating into approximately one million visitors per year, consolidating the Dominican Republic as a Caribbean Cruise Hub. The initiative will not only boost tourism, but will also generate around 1,050 direct and indirect jobs, benefiting the entire province of Samaná and surrounding areas.
