Education Infrastructure Upgrades Underway Across Dominican Republic

Public school operations continue normally across most of the Dominican Republic, as the Ministry of Education advances infrastructure repairs in selected schools. According to the Directorate of School Infrastructure, less than 2% of the country’s 7,960 public schools require special attention due to structural concerns.

Currently, 114 schools operate under alternative learning arrangements, with 109 undergoing renovation. In locations where safety conditions allow, construction works are being carried out concurrently with in-person classes. Authorities are using night shifts and weekend work schedules to expedite the process and minimize disruptions to the academic calendar.

The Directorate reports that 214 schools remain under technical monitoring, with each case addressed according to specific needs. Temporary solutions have been implemented in several schools to maintain educational continuity while permanent improvements are completed.

Officials expect most pending works to be completed between September and October, allowing students to return to fully rehabilitated classrooms. The initiative aims to provide safer, more functional learning environments without compromising access to education.

The Ministry of Education has committed to ongoing oversight of all active projects, ensuring that students, teachers, and families have access to safe and dignified educational spaces.
