The Dominican Republic was present at the XXV General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, which ends this Friday the 20th, in which important topics related to sustainable tourism, education and investments were discussed.
As is held every two years within the framework of the Assembly, the presentation of the UNWTO Ulysses Prize for Excellence in the Creation and Dissemination of Knowledge in Tourism is awarded to distinguished academic personalities in recognition of their notable contribution to the tourism sector. Created in 2003, the Prize is awarded to representatives of the academic world who stand out for their outstanding achievements and on this occasion the winner is Dr. Jigang Bao, professor and director of the Research Center for Tourism Development and Planning of the University by Yat-sen from Guangzhou (China)
Infotur Domincano was able to learn that the delegation of the Dominican Republic was made up of Carlos Peguero, Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism, Anabel Bueno Santana, Ambassador of the Mission of the Dominican Republic, Aníbal De Castro Rodriguez, Permanent Representative of the Republic Dominican before the UNWTO and Mercedes Pichardo, Personal Assistant to the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona.
Within the framework of this XXV General Assembly of the UNWTO, the 119th Meeting of the Executive Council was also held, remembering that the previous edition, the Dominican Republic was the headquarters, when it was held in the Bávaro Punta Cana area, in addition to the World Forum on Education and the Global Investment Forum.
At the World Education Forum, the high-level ministerial debate was held on Policies to promote innovation and education for current and future generations, as well as the Address: Education, investing in the future. Likewise, the program of this forum addressed the topic Open horizons: Tourism as an essential discipline of education and perspectives for youth. Meanwhile, the Global Investment Forum began with the presentation of the presentation: Global trends in tourism investments: the UNWTO investment framework to make tourism a state policy. Official presentation of the investment guide “Tourism Doing Business: Investing in Uzbekistan”.
Other topics discussed were: Perspectives in tourism investments: promoting new forms of investments in hospitality and sustainable infrastructure, the changing role of private capital and corporations and the Acceleration of venture capital at the service of entrepreneurship and startups.
