The Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games are set to extend far beyond the capital, creating a nationwide sports tourism circuit as more than 6,200 athletes from 37 countries and territories compete over 16 days.
While the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center will serve as the event’s main hub, a substantial share of the competitions will be staged at venues outside the complex. The Games feature 40 sports and 56 disciplines, with events scheduled across Greater Santo Domingo as well as in Santiago, Moca, La Vega, Bonao, Cabarete, Baní and Punta Cana.
The geographic reach of the competition is one of the defining features of this edition. Opened on July 24 and scheduled to conclude on August 8, the Games will bring athletes, officials, relatives and fans to multiple regions of the Dominican Republic.
Organizers expect the decentralized format to give visitors an opportunity to experience the country’s diverse tourism destinations while following the sporting program, from the urban venues of Santo Domingo to the mountain communities of the Cibao region, the northern coast and Punta Cana’s resort corridor.
