Punta Cana.– Frank Rainieri, founder of the Puntacana Group, assured that the recent blackouts triggered by the shutdown of a unit at the Punta Catalina thermoelectric plant have not impacted the country’s tourism industry. He emphasized that hotels in Punta Cana and Bávaro are fully equipped with backup power systems, guaranteeing uninterrupted service for visitors.

Rainieri voiced confidence that the recent expansion of Punta Catalina, which added 600 megawatts to the national grid, will allow the government to stabilize the electricity supply. “The people have been suffering, but I believe this is a problem on its way to being resolved,” he stated.

The outages, stemming from the shutdown of unit two and earlier disruptions in unit one caused by sargassum-related water shortages, have sparked public concern. The situation led President Luis Abinader to personally inspect the facility during the commemoration of the Restoration War.
