PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — FL Technics has officially launched operations at its new aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Punta Cana after receiving certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), marking a significant milestone for the Dominican Republic’s growing aviation sector.
The FAA awarded the company a Part 145 Repair Station Certificate following an extensive evaluation of its maintenance procedures, technical equipment, operational systems, personnel qualifications, and facility standards. The certification authorizes FL Technics to provide maintenance services for airlines and aircraft leasing companies operating throughout the Americas.
JetBlue has been confirmed as the first airline to utilize the new facility, underscoring the center’s strategic role in supporting commercial aviation operations across the region.
Located within the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone, the MRO center occupies approximately 20,000 square meters and is equipped to perform base maintenance on aircraft from the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families, two of the most widely operated commercial aircraft platforms in the world.
FL Technics said the facility is being staffed through a combination of local recruitment and international expertise, with experienced specialists training Dominican technicians as part of a long-term workforce development strategy. The company plans to progressively transfer operational leadership to qualified Dominican professionals as the operation expands.
The FAA approval follows the company’s recent certification by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), completing the regulatory requirements necessary to begin full operations in the country.
As part of its long-term investment strategy, FL Technics plans to significantly increase the facility’s capacity, expanding from five maintenance bays to 20 in future development phases. The expansion is expected to create highly skilled employment opportunities while positioning Punta Cana as a leading aircraft maintenance hub for U.S., Caribbean, and Latin American airlines.
The project represents another step in the Dominican Republic’s efforts to diversify its economy by strengthening its aviation, logistics, and technical services sectors, while reinforcing Punta Cana’s growing importance as both a tourism gateway and an emerging center for aerospace services in the Americas.
