SÃO PAULO, Brazil — The launch of LATAM Airlines’ new nonstop service between São Paulo and Punta Cana marks a significant milestone in strengthening tourism, business, and diplomatic ties between Brazil and the Dominican Republic, according to officials attending the route’s official inauguration.
Speaking during the launch ceremony, Dominican Republic Ambassador to Brazil Robert Takata described the new air connection as a strong vote of confidence in the country’s tourism industry and economic potential, noting that the route further reinforces a bilateral relationship with substantial opportunities for future growth.
Takata emphasized that the direct service eliminates one of the principal barriers for Brazilian travelers by providing faster and more convenient access to the Dominican Republic. Beyond Punta Cana’s internationally renowned beaches and resorts, he encouraged visitors to explore the country’s historical heritage, cultural attractions, and culinary traditions, highlighting Santo Domingo as the oldest European-founded city in the Americas.
The ambassador also underscored the cultural similarities shared by Brazil and the Dominican Republic, including their traditions of hospitality, strong family values, and passion for sports. He noted that improved air connectivity extends beyond tourism by fostering stronger people-to-people relationships and encouraging greater cultural exchange between the two nations.
In addition to its tourism appeal, Takata presented the Dominican Republic as a strategic destination for international investment, citing its geographic location in the Caribbean and preferential access to the United States market as key competitive advantages for Brazilian companies seeking regional expansion.
The inauguration of the new route also coincides with the celebration of 115 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and the Dominican Republic, a milestone that officials said further underscores the importance of expanding economic, commercial, and cultural cooperation.
During the event, Camila Goico, representing the Dominican Republic Tourism Office in São Paulo, showcased the country’s diverse tourism offerings and reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Brazilian market as one of the fastest-growing sources of visitors to the Dominican Republic.
The ceremony brought together government representatives, LATAM Airlines executives, tourism industry leaders, business executives, travel agencies, tour operators, and members of the Brazilian media, reflecting the broad institutional and commercial support behind the new international air service.
Industry analysts believe the São Paulo–Punta Cana route will contribute to increased visitor arrivals from South America’s largest economy while strengthening Punta Cana’s position as one of the Caribbean’s leading international tourism destinations.
